The Myth of the Moon Elves
There exists a myth few people talk about for very few even know it anymore.
There is a forgotten part of Elven history never scribed in the records. It
was not accepted, then not believed. It became a myth, but even that myth
has faded from the minds of the Elves. And thus, the Moon Elves remain shrouded
in mystery.
Down in the south in a hidden cove, a band of Aquatic Elves made their home.
They lived peacefully, keeping to themselves. One day, a group of High Elves
settled nearby. They found the Aquatic Elf city by accident. Wary of each other
at first, the two groups struck a trade agreement that benefited both sides.
The groups became quite close. Their trade took place at dusk since the skin
and eyes of the Aquatic Elves could not tolerate the sun for long. They began
to hold festivals in the evenings.
Eventually, they began to fall in love. Aquatic and High Elf traits began
to combine, adapting to the environment. The children were born with hair ranging
in colour from light blue to dark purple. Their eyes were brown or green by
day, then faded to purple as the Moon rose, allowing them to see in both day
and night. They chose to live mostly by night, rising around six in the evening
and sleeping at ten in the morning through the hottest part of the day. They
were scorned by those who knew of their city. And thus, the new Elves closed
their city.
The city remained hidden, isolated from the world. The city cannot be found
unless one is shown the way. Only those inside the city know the secrets that
keep the city from being discovered. Non-Elves do not know the myth. Few Elves
do, and of those few, the ones who have gone looking for the city by the sea
have never found it. And the myth has faded from memory. Until recently.
Several years ago, a few rumors spread in the cities of a group of purple-haired
elves working as guards for a merchant caravan. Investigations led to a group
calling themselves The Guardians who dyed their hair to mark themselves as
members of their guild. The band has since departed the caravan and has not
been heard of for over three years now…
